These program areas serve as the basis for all programming in the 4-H youth development organization and can provide a strong focus for the CYFAR program. Participants will be provided tools, resources, and ideas on how to implement programs that promote the mission mandates.
Go Back.Description: The 2010 CYFAR Conference is proud to once again partner with KaBOOM! in building a playground for a deserving community. For the fifth straight year, CYFAR Conference participants and KaBOOM! will join forces with University of California Extension Staff and local community members to build a playground in a day. This community-built, child designed playground, will provide children with a place to play and allow community members to come together in a safe and fun environment. This pre-conference will highlight how a community-based program can be developed, implemented and completed in a short period of time. Transportation to and from the build site to the conference hotel will be provided. Food and drinks will be provided to all volunteers throughout the day. No building experience is necessary and there are a variety of roles for volunteers.
Go Back.Description: The 4-H Science, Engineering and Technology (SET) Initiative is targeting the critical need to address the K-12 youth science literacy problem in the U.S. by engaging youth, including those at risk, in nonformal 4-H SET projects and programs. This session will strengthen participant's understanding of experiential and inquiry-based learning and provide best practices and examples of 4-H SET programming.

Learn the various elements of a logic model and have the opportunity to apply that knowledge to your own program. All are welcome but states that are planning to submit an SCP project proposal in 2010 will especially benefit from this session.

Community collaborations are an ecological approach for developing effective solutions that address issues affecting at-risk children, youth, and families. Go Back.All conference attendees who are military or who work with military are invited to a special military focused workshop session. After breakfast, join colleagues for a special opening speaker and round table networking session. The speaker will cover the "Real" meaning of Community Capacity Building as it relates to providing support networks for military youth and families. Participants will then have the opportunity to network through round table discussions on topical areas of interest or concern to learn about best practices for successful military partnerships.
